King Street Pilot- Parkette Installation

March 2018- July 2018

In collaboration with the City of Toronto's King Street Pilot and Ryerson's Office of Innovation, I had an opportunity to work with students from different disciplines in designing a parkette. Our team (Caravanserais) played on the idea of how the space was previously dedicated to cars and now it is being brought back to people to use. From this, we came up with a parkette that featured a car shaped bench design. Upon competing with 20 teams, our design was one of the few chosen to acquire funding to become a true reality. The judges included Gregg Lintern, Chief Planner of the City of Toronto. The parkette was located at King and Church Streets from July-October 2018. The document below showcases our idea, design, construction and the reality of the project.

MY EXPERIENCES

As a recent graduate from Ryerson's School of Urban and Regional Planning, I have gained a broad perspective of Urban Planning from the lens of the Municipality, Consultant, and Developer.

Leading discussions with community stakeholders regarding the redevelopment process of Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke has allowed me to develop strong facilitation skills. I took part in communicating with the public  inside the mall to discuss the what the future of the mall could be like, the development process, and to analyse reactions to the presented information. In addition, we also had various workshops and events with community stakeholders to develop a strong community relationship. This experience has given me an opportunity to strengthen my communication and facilitation skills, while giving me a new perspective in the development process.
